While Anthony Burgess’ provocative novel A Clockwork Orange has been loosely associated with Milton’s Paradise Lost in very few academic works, the utilization of each text as a tool to better understand the other remains largely unexplored (Evans 130; Pearson 41) At first glance Burgess’ blood-hungry, sexually gluttonous dystopia may appear as the furthest depiction of human nature from Milton’s how-to guide on salvation possible. However, both texts are established on, and consistently advocate for, personal autonomy and freewill. Furthermore, both texts prompt readers to acknowledge the detrimental effects resulting from the loss of these liberties.Continue reading “Comparing Apples and Oranges: A Comparative Analysis of “A Clockwork Orange” and “Paradise Lost””

Eve’s Paradise Lost
By Ryleigh Simmons What I Did And Why? For my project, I was a little unsure of what I wanted to do at first. I thought I wanted to work with Boy My Greatness because I really enjoyed that play, and it was one of the easiest texts to understand. However, after listening to “Labour”Continue reading “Eve’s Paradise Lost”

Two Sides of Satan in Paradise Lost (Through Art)
This unessay focused on bringing John Milton’s Paradise Lost alive through art. As an artist, I wanted to do something art-related and thought about drawing a scene from one of the readings we read. As I was more attached to Paradise Lost due to its themes and characters, I wanted to illustrate the story throughContinue reading “Two Sides of Satan in Paradise Lost (Through Art)”
Final Project – Pandemonium Minecraft Build
For my final project, I’ve decided to create Pandemonium, the city of demons, from Milton’s Paradise Lost, in Minecraft. I’ve also written a piece about how I see Pandemonium as an inverse of Heaven, which you can find here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1iVsI0-ga5nDHRgxj3TgSTKgsnswjHfL0DFpqqSEdADU/edit?usp=sharing Now, this build hasn’t been easy, and I’ve had to take a few creative liberties.Continue reading “Final Project – Pandemonium Minecraft Build”
Since the Beginning…
Jocks, popular, orch-dorks, nerds, band geeks, etc. are all stereotypical groups to which we associate with high school and stereotypical high school movies. The apparent necessity to create this social hierarchy dominates the world we live in and the world we know, starting at a young age. This hierarchy I speak of can even beContinue reading “Since the Beginning…”
