Project 1:

One of the most familiar games known around the world. This game is a childhood memory for me at least. Have you ever heard of the game called Jeopardy? Jeopardy is played by tons of people. Jeopardy is a universal game played by millions. Jeopardy can be played in the classroom or with the family, but it can also be turned into a huge deal as well like nationally televised tv programs where randomly selected people can win big money. The rules and how you play jeopardy are actually quite simple. As long you are brushed up on your trivia for whatever ever topic the game is being played about that night. The objective of the game is simple. Out of the other two opponents, your playing with you needs to answer the most questions correctly to win the most money. The game starts with the host revealing the number of categories. Each question in a category ranges being worth one hundred to five hundred dollars. The person playing the game gets to chose which category and amount they want. For example, they could say “animals 300” they would have to answer that one. The lower the amount the easier the question. The round ends when either the timer runs out or the player has answered all the questions. If the player answers the question correctly, he or she gets to keep the money and if answered wrong the question is up in the air for the other contestants as well.
Now that we have a basic understanding of the game, I can explain what I specifically am going to create. Over the course of the past few weeks, we have covered many topics that were large and very in-depth. For this project, we were asked to either write a traditional essay and or an “unessay” on anything we learned in class from the first half of the semester. Obviously I picked the choice of doing an “unessay” or we wouldn’t be sitting here discussing the game of jeopardy. For my “unessay” jeopardy game I decided to base my game off European Imperialism. Imperialism is the domination of the economic, political, and cultural life over other nations or countries. It began in the 1800s, in which European countries-controlled Africa, Asia, and South America. The Industrial Revolution made the economy of Europe stronger. So, European countries sought for dominating other nations. I will start off the game by introducing me (the host) and asking the three players to introduce themselves as well and give the “audience” a little fun fact about themselves. After that, I will list off all of the six categories. The categories being imperialism, motives, Africa, Asia, South America, and Social Darwinism. Then I will continue to play the game by the rules with the contestants playing until we have a singular winner! One example of a question I would ask for an easy one hundred dollar “The needs of the Industrial Revolution in 19th-century Europe greatly contributed to the” and an example of a five-hundred-dollar question I would ask “Which statement would Social Darwinists most likely support?”. Of course, for each question, there will be options to choose from just in case you don’t know the answer to the question and need to take a wild guess, but hopefully, you have brushed up on your European imperialism trivia and are able to win the big bucks!
I thought the entire process of creating and doing an unessay was ten times better than the normal. This type of project allowed me to be creative and I don’t always get to be creative when writing and being an English major. I hope my game would be as fun for the people playing it as much as it was fun for me to create and bringing the game to life!
